Another popular webcam in Paris overlooking one of the main attractions of this city. In general, there are a lot of world-famous sights in the capital of France, and it is almost always the case not about some small objects, but about grand buildings and structures. This webcam allows you to see in real time the Palais des Invalides (also known as Les Invalides) in Paris. Construction of the building was begun in 1670, and completed in 1677, which even by modern standards is a very short period for construction work of this magnitude. At the same time, the first inhabitants of the Palace of Invalides – veterans of the French army – settled in the rooms designated for this as early as 1674. As we can see with the webcam, the Palace of Invalides consists of two parts – the cathedral and residential buildings.

The grandiose cathedral in the foreground of this webcam of Paris is the Cathedral of Saint Louis, also called the Cathedral of the Invalides. The beautiful building with a colonnade and a majestic dome has a height of 107 meters, while the diameter of the dome is 27 meters. With this live camera you can see how the dome of the Invalides shines in the sun. The dome was restored in 1989, while more than 12 kilograms of pure gold were used for its gilding. The highest point of the cathedral is the gilded catholic cross on the dome. The cathedral is located in the far (from the Seine river) part of the House of Invalides. Between the main facade of the House of Invalids and the embankment of the Seine there is an esplanade of Invalides – a large area with dimensions of 250 by 500 meters. Currently, the Esplanade of Invalides is decorated with lawns, trees and shrubs, as well as a large collection of old cannons, some of which are French, and some – trophy.

It should be noted that after the completion of construction and in the 18th-19th centuries, up to 4,000 veterans and invalides lived in the House of Invalides. At the same time, already from the end of the 18th century, museum expositions were created in the several premises of the House of Invalides, which in 1905 were merged into the Army Museum. Despite this, the House of Invalides is still partially used for its intended purpose. Currently, there are about 100 veterans and disabled of the French army. One of the reasons for the popularity of the House of Invalids among tourists from all over the world is the fact that the sarcophagus with the remains of Napoleon Bonaparte, the most famous emperor of France, is installed in the crypt of the Cathedral. It is this grand sarcophagus of crimson quartz, surrounded by 12 sculptures, is most popular with visitors to the Palace of Invalides in Paris.
